Description and purpose of grant: 

I would like to enhance my Physical Education classes with the purchase of the Heart Zones Smart Pack-30 Curriculum. Each student would be able to wear a heart rate monitor during class that tracks their heart rate which is then displayed on a color-coded screen. They would receive instant feedback on their exertion levels which would encourage self-awareness and motivation. The color-coded heart rate zones that are displayed allow for objective assessment by both the student and teacher to monitor effort and adjust as needed. Data can be used to set short and long term goals. These features promote active, personalized engagement, and absolutely redifine what success looks like in PE. Learners will better understand their personal fitness and their fitness outcomes, leading to improved life-long health and wellness. 

Implementation process:

I plan to use Heart Zones with every learner Kindergarten through 5th grade. All learners will be introduced at their levels to the concept of heart rate and the equipment being used, including implementing systems for daily distribution, collection, and care. Younger learners would be focusing mostly on the color-coded zones and recognizing what each zone feels like and means. Fourth and fifth grade learners will use the color coded zones, but will also look at the actual heart rate numbers, and they will be able to set goals based on the data. I will also incorporate Social Emotional Learning by using Heart Zones during our cool down/refocus time and focus on lowering heart rates. I am excited that every learner in school will have the opportunity to be positively impacted by this innovative technology. The software and licensing are included, and there are no yearly fees to continue. I am also excited that I would be able to attend a Heart Zone training session at our PE conference that I am already scheduled to attend in December.

The Heart Zones Curriculum Smart Pack- 30 includes: Heart Zones Curriculum, Blink 3.0 Plus Armbands, Heart Zones Hanging Charging Station, Heart Zones Bridge, (2) Heart Zones 28 Port Charger, (2) plastic storage cases, Heart Zones PE Software, one-time license fee (no yearly fees), Zoning Wall Chart, Zoning Cards, and Installation Consulting

In the event my grant is not fully funded, this is minimum amount I would need to get started on this project:  

$4190.00

This amount would be enough for a smaller HEART ZONES CURRICULUM SMART PACK-20 available for $4090.00 with $100 shipping. This would provide a heart rate monitor for each student in many of my current classes, but not all of them.
