Description and purpose of grant: This grant is to provide supplies to plant a spring garden. We currently have a gardening site with raised beds, and we have required tools. This will provide opportunities for students learn about the biology of gardening and provide a platform for experimentation and data analysis for statistics. It will encourage students to participate in outdoor activities, and it will help provide a positive, hands on experiences for out campus community. In addition, it will provide leadership opportunities for the students running the gardening activities.
Implementation process: Early February we will start seeds in starter pots and prep the garden beds. The garden would be planted prior to spring break in March. The garden would be cared for through April. The garden will be available to use for classroom projects or explorations. Statistical analysis could be done on plant growth, and there would be opportunities for statistical experiments. The garden would be part of the outdoor landscaping for our school’s campus, adding to the overall environment.
