Grade: PE Department
Teacher Name: Tiffiny Houdek and Keith Wright
Description and purpose of grant: Mockingbird Elementary is seeking funding to enhance our Physical Education program through the purchase of Adaptive PE equipment and global sports materials. This will support inclusive participation for all students—including those in our Structured Learning classrooms—and introduce games that reflect the diverse cultures represented on our campus. Aligned with our Striking Unit in HPLS (K.3G; 1.3G; 2.3G; 3.3G; 4.3G; 5.3G), students will engage in activities like cricket, badminton, and table tennis while being encouraged to share their cultural experiences. This initiative supports district goals of equity, inclusion, and helping all learners achieve their IEP and physical education objectives.
Implementation process:
The project will be implemented during regularly scheduled Physical Education classes throughout the school year. All K–5 students at Mockingbird Elementary will participate in the Striking Unit, which will now include global games such as cricket, badminton, and table tennis. Instruction will also be adapted to support students of all ability levels, including approximately 30 students from our Structured Learning classrooms, using newly purchased Adaptive PE equipment.
The materials and equipment purchased through this grant will be reusable and durable, allowing the program to continue benefiting students for multiple school years. Additionally, I will document and refine lesson plans to ensure sustainability and alignment with TEKS and HPLS objectives (K.3G; 1.3G; 2.3G; 3.3G; 4.3G; 5.3G).

In the event my grant is not fully funded, this is minimum amount I would need to get started on this project: In the event my grant is not fully funded, the minimum amount I would need to get started on this project is $940. This amount would allow us to purchase a basic set of Adaptive PE equipment and some of the global sports kit (e.g., cricket or badminton), enabling us to begin implementing inclusive striking activities with our student population. While full funding would ensure a broader and more sustainable impact, this minimum amount would allow us to launch the core elements of the program.
