Description and purpose of grant: 2 classroom sets of dictionaries for students to use in ELAR classrooms. We teach students to use dictionaries to understand unknown words as well as to help with answering questions on STAAR based on dictionary skills. 

Implementation process: We use dictionaries on a daily basis in 5th grade. We do Daily Language Reviews each day and these often ask students to use dictionaries to determine word meaning. Additionally we use dictionaries to identify unknown words in our reading. The wonderful thing about having paper copies of dictionaries is that generations of students will be able to use and apply these skills with one set of dictionaries. It also directly corrilates with getting students off their ipads/dependent on technology and actually learn the skill of defining a word. Currently in my classroom we have 5 dictionaries that have to be shared between all my students. This doesn't allow for me to teach a skill whole group and then send students off to apply and use the skill. 

Items you plan to purchase with grant money: Webster Dictionary 2025 Set for Students; set of 12. I am asking for 4 sets so that both ELAR classrooms can have 24 dictionaries for student use. 

In the event my grant is not fully funded, this is minimum amount I would need to get started on this project: $59.98 to purchase 1 class set to be used with my personal ELAR classes.
