Description and purpose of grant: This project seeks funding to create enriching read-alouds for the Kindergarten classroom. One kit will include 25 sets of 6 carefully selected high-quality picture books, guiding comprehension questions, and structured opportunities for shared writing experiences. The purpose is to strengthen early literacy by helping students build listening comprehension, critical thinking, vocabulary, and foundational writing skills through rich, interactive reading experiences.  Without structured tools, read-alouds often become passive listening experiences rather than active, language-rich discussions. By providing this ready-to-use kit, we can ensure that all students—especially those who may not have strong literacy exposure at home—can participate in meaningful conversations and writing tasks that deepen their comprehension. Each book will provide support in learning CISD's high-priority learning standards, which have been indentified to be crucial for students before moving to the next grade.
