Our Akins Correctional Services Internship accomplished an amazing feat at their regional TPSA Criminal Justice Competition where every single student who competed in the Regional TPSA Criminal Justice Competition was able to place in the top 3 thus qualifying them all for the State TPSA Criminal Justice Competition. Unfortunately what should have been a joyous celebration quickly turned into concern about funding. Due to lack of budget, only 1st place regional qualifiers will be funded for their state competition. This is unfortunate as all students should have the opportunity to pursue their goals and represent their school at State. While I have 2 first place finishers, I also have 9 other students placing either 2nd or 3rd. I believe all students who qualify for their state event should be able to compete regardless of their placement.
Please help us bridge the gap to allow the 2nd and 3rd place finishers a chance to represent Akins Early College High School for all of Texas to see at this year's State Competition. The cost would be for registration and lodging only for the additional students who placed 2nd and 3rd. The registration would be $125 per person for a total of 9 students totaling $1,125. The lodging cost is $186 per night for 3 nights ($558) with 2 rooms for a total of $1,116. The total for both registration and lodging for the additional students would be $2,241. Any extra funds collected will be used toward equipment for competition.
